Getting out of your head can be challenging for many people, especially those who tend to overthink.

**I’m one of those people**

It's important to recognize when you're stuck in negative thought patterns or becoming too absorbed in your thoughts. One technique that has helped me is focusing my attention on my surroundings, engaging all of my senses, and being present in the moment. You can also try mindfulness meditation or engage in physical activity, which can help clear your mind and release tension. Remember, it's okay to take a step back and give yourself a mental break! Seeking support from a therapist, family or friends can also be beneficial.

However, be wary of going to an energy-draining person. This can do more harm in the long run. In my case, my husband is my support (my sunshine). He is the rock I can lean on when I’m not strong enough, my reminder to not be so hard on myself, and my helper when I feel I can’t possibly go any further.

I encourage you to Find your Sunshine.

7 Ways to Get Out of Your Head

As human beings, we often find ourselves lost in our thoughts and heads. However, sometimes, we need to take a break from our constant thinking and just allow our minds to rest. Here are some ways to get out of your head:

1. Do something active: Engaging in physical activity can help you take your mind off your thoughts and focus on the present moment. Go for a walk, try yoga, or hit the gym - whatever helps you break out of your mental bubble. My favorite activities are going for a hike, a bike ride at the beach, yoga by Boho Beautiful, or quick workouts by Pamela Reif.

2. Talk to someone: Talking to a friend or family member can help you gain perspective. They may have insights that you hadn't considered or can simply listen to you vent your thoughts. This is very important to not keep your feelings wrapped up! We all know what happens when we do this…. *Emotional Explosion*

3. Try meditation: Meditation can be a powerful tool to help calm your mind and reduce anxiety. There are many apps, videos, and books available to guide you through the practice of meditation. My favorites are guided meditations by Boho Beautiful and Great Meditation on YouTube. However, there are many more amazing meditations than these two!

4. Journal: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you get them out of your head and process them. Putting pen to paper can help you identify patterns or themes in your thinking that may be helpful to recognize. I’m even thinking of turning my journal into a book to help others like me! Most of all, it’s nice reading back to see how far I’ve come.

5. Go outside: Spending time in nature can help you feel more grounded and present, even better if you’re able to do it barefoot. Take a walk in the park, hike a nearby trail, or simply spend time sitting outside. I love sitting on my back patio with a cup of hot tea or some wine, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the sound of the birds.

6. Practice gratitude: Focusing on the good things in your life can help shift your focus away from negative or anxious thoughts. Take a few minutes each day to write down a list of things you are grateful for. Practicing gratitude and meditation have been my biggest aid in getting out of my head. When you practice regularly, you’ll start to become aware of when your mind trails off, or those negative thoughts appear, and calmly bring yourself back to the beauty in life.

7. Listen to music: There's something about the rhythm and melody of music that speaks to our soul, helping us to relax and let go of our worries. Whether it's finding comfort in the lyrics of a favorite song or getting lost in the instrumental sounds of jazz or classical, music has the power to soothe our spirits and ease our minds. Next time you’re having issues getting out of your head, put your favorite music on, really listen to it, feel it, or dance to it!

Getting out of your head can be a challenge, but by trying different activities and techniques, you can find moments of peace and calm in your daily life. Now go out there and…
