In 2016, a friend introduced me to a homemade Essential Oil Facewash. Due to having PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, my hormones were out of control. The acne on my face was huge, red, and painful. Living with adult acne was embarrassing and did not help with my confidence!
After 1 week of trying out this homemade facewash, I noticed the redness going down! I was impressed, to say the least! I started seeing a glimpse of my confidence come back and with the extra help of gut health supplements, my acne had diminished!
Essential oils are concentrated, power-packed, natural liquids that are extracted from a plant. Studies have shown that essential oils may help:
Relieve headaches
Boost mood
Improve sleep
Kill bacteria & viruses
Reduce inflammation & nausea
Help with anxiety
Essential Oils used in my DIY Facewash
*I buy all Essential Oils through Melaleuca, The Wellness Company. If you’re interested in learning more about Melaleuca, email me at hello@sunshineinyourpocket.net *
Pure™ T36-C5® Melaleuca Oil- “First-aid kit in a bottle”
A natural antiseptic, that treats minor cuts, scrapes, bug bites, and burns, while gently soothing “ouches,” naturally fights bacteria, naturally penetrates, cleans, and jump-starts the healing process. (I use this Tea Tree Oil in my DIY Facewash)
Pure™ T40-C3® Melaleuca Oil- Does the same as above but is a very rare grade of melaleuca oil formulated for those with sensitive skin. (Going to try this Tea Tree Oil on my next order)
Pure™ Lavender Essential Oil- Encourages peaceful sleep, helps soothe irritated skin, and eases feelings of tension.
Pure™ Clary Sage Essential Oil- Soothes irritated skin and hormonal acne.
Pure™ Rose or Geranium- Balancing, soft, and nurturing. Has beautifying properties that encourage glowing skin, AKA redness.
Pure™ Frankincense- “The King of Oils!”
Promotes feelings of peace and harmony. Helps balance oily skin and rejuvenates the complexion.
Other Ingredients
Unscented Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap- An all-purpose soap used for almost anything. Used straight on the skin, it can be very drying. When mixed with other ingredients, it becomes a gentle, yet deep pore cleanser, safe for sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skin.
Now Solutions Vegetable Glycerin- Helps hydrate and moisturize skin. In most beauty products.
Pura D’or Vitamin E Oil- Blend of seven oils that are rich in Vitamin E. Helps with acne scarring (my main reason for use), but has been known to help with aging, stretch marks, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Once you get comfortable with making my DIY Facewash, experiment with different oils to see how it helps your skin! Just remember, DO NOT go overboard with the number of drops used! It could hurt you more than help.
Also, be cautious of where you are buying essential oils. I encourage you to research what makes a good brand for Essential Oils! Some OTC brands are packed with fillers, synthetics & harsh chemicals. Remember that essential oils are very concentrated, so too much can hurt you.

*I chose glass because plastic can seep into your facewash. Just be careful not to drop the glass!
*I have a clear glass dispenser, but the Amber Glass is beautiful! Check it out here.
*Make sure it is a FOAM dispenser. If not, this facewash recipe will NOT work!
*As for the water, I use tap water in my recipe. You may use whatever you like. Do your research about what minerals and such are in the water near you.
*Pure™ Myrrh Essential Oil is an amazing add-on! Known for its cleansing properties.
